 March of Remembrance - JuneteenthThis forum is about the annual March of Remembrance held on June 19th every year, beginning in Virginia 2012. "Juneteenth" is the day that all slaves were freed in the USA by General Gordon Grainger by Federal Order on June 19th, 1865. Though the abolition of slavery is perhaps the most important accomplishment of christians in the history of the USA after founding the nation, the cost was so high that it was/is never celebrated. Our first event was held June 19th, 2012 in Newport News on the very property where slavery was first established in the American colonies. This plantation of Andrew Johnson was where the first slaves worked, and near to where the first slaves were freed at Fort Henry. This location is also where the first covenants with American natives, the Powahatan Tribe, were broken. | 0 | 0 | |
